winter cooking

I went years eating macaroni and cheese, tuna helper, frozen this-and-that because there was always a little one whining, crying, needing a new diaper, bath etc etc. Now that everyone is 4 and up I decided to teach myself (through books) how to cook. Also, my neighbor cooks all the time and in the summer i can smell her supper simmering. I refuse to pay the prices of new books at the bookstore so I am currently borrowing all the Cook’s Illustrated books in the local libraries. They include a profuse amount of kitchen science and tast testing results with the recipes.
