Summer sewing

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer !  I have been too busy enjoying time with my kids to sew lately .  Here is the project I completed last August for the Lunch Bags! book.   The image below  is a montage of some of  the other sewing projects included in the book.  Information on the book and the other collaborators can be found here  http://www.stashbooksblog.com/products/lunch-bags/

This book will be in bookstores anytime.  I plan on  sewing some really cool lunchbags for my family in time for September!

Lunch Bags!

I wrote a lunch tote and placemat pattern last summer for a sewing book being released in July by C&T Publishing.   I was surprised and honored that I was given this opportunity.  Here is a picture of the cover:

The crafters that will be featured are very talented bloggers and/or  Etsy sellers.  Also, the bag on the cover is not mine.  I’m not sure who is the lucky covergirl !  I will post more pics when I get my copies !

Here is the link to the book on C&T’s website … http://www.ctpub.com/productdetails.cfm?PC=1890

Here is the book’s link on Amazon …

p.s. I was suffering from Strep at the time.   I can’t even believe I made the deadline to get my pattern in, being so ill !

Swap received !

Is it a dream or is it real ?  It’s really real !  A package from the Netherlands arrived  today from a sweet swap partner named Bettina :

She thoughtfully sent 2 fat quarters of cute fabric (I LOVE the doggie one !),  ribbon,  embroidery floss,  a packet of Black-eyed Susan seeds, and a beautiful card with a mouse on it.   These Spring treats came with a quilted bucket bag she sewed with crochet trim and ribbon details.

I am almost done sewing her swap gift and plan to mail it Friday.

Thanks Bettina !! XX OO

As a sidenote for all you fabric-o-philes like me: I ventured to Target to check out the new “Liberty of London for Target”  line this morning.  It didn’t impress me (and I LOVE Liberty’s Tana Lawn).  The prints were just OK .  I  didn’t see anything that was so great that I’d want to spend my money on it.  Maybe I thrift shop so much now that I am unable to be fazed by any of the  imported junk that fills our stores.

recovering a lampshade

You will need scissors, washable marker or chalk, and a hot glue gun.  The steps are outlined below :

Trace pattern by rolling shade on fabric while using chalk or washable marker. With marker or chalk add 1 " all around pattern then cut.

Lay shade on its side. Fold side of pattern 1/2" and hot glue onto shade. Then glue top and bottom around edges onto shade. I clip the top edge in 3 or 4 places to go around the frame pieces.

Stand back and admire !

Now that the demands of the Holidays have passed it is nice to work on things that have piled up in the work basket. I have mended a coat zipper and now I’m finishing a piece of patchwork :
